Planning
Following engagement, the planning process begins in close collaboration with the project team, including architects, designers, and developers. Together, we define the photographic vision and final image requirements. Architectural plans, FF&E design presentations, and overall visual objectives are carefully reviewed to ensure alignment.
A site visit is then conducted to walk the project and refine the creative direction. With a background in both architecture and photography from The Ohio State University, Bernie brings a clear understanding of architectural intent, allowing for an efficient and informed approach to capturing each project.
For historic buildings—or new construction within historic districts—early photographic engagement is highly recommended, ideally prior to any interior demolition. This ensures that original details, materials, and architectural artifacts are preserved through imagery. When applicable, the surrounding neighborhood is also documented, typically within a four-block radius, to capture contextual elements that contribute to the building’s story.
Note:  If the project involves a historic building, photography engagement prior to any interior demolition of the historic building is extremely important so that the beautiful, aged imagery details and artifacts can be captured. This holds true even if the design concept decks have not been fully developed. For historic buildings and/or new buildings in a historic district, I walk 4 city blocks around the building’s location to then photograph landmarks and other architectural details of buildings within those 4 city blocks.
Photography
Photography is captured using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 system (45.7 MP) paired with professional NIKKOR lenses. This level of resolution provides exceptional detail and flexibility, supporting a wide range of applications from digital use to large-scale print reproduction.
Drone photography is available through collaboration with an experienced, FAA-licensed drone team. I direct all aerial sessions on-site to ensure the imagery aligns seamlessly with the overall visual objectives.
Image Licensing
Comprehensive image licensing is included for all final deliverables and is typically assigned to the client or developer. Licensed images may be used in perpetuity for marketing, artistic, and documentation purposes. Copyright is retained by the photographer.
Photo Selects
Final image selections are presented through web-based galleries with zoom functionality, allowing the project team to review details with precision. Once selections are finalized, low-resolution files are provided for integration into design presentations and approval materials.
Post Processing
All selected images undergo high-resolution post-processing, including color correction, tonal refinement, and subtle retouching where needed. Additional custom retouching services are available upon request.
Final Print Management
If requested, I can oversee the final art print production to ensure the highest quality results. With over 50 years of experience in photographic and digital print production, he brings deep expertise in color accuracy, resolution, and material selection—ensuring each final piece meets the highest standards of presentation.
